Technicals The legalConnect Web Suite consists of two components for creating and managing law firm Web sites. The legalConnect Web Content Management System allows users to add and manage a rich variety of content stored in a SQL Server database, including information for attorney and staff, practice areas, industries, news, publications, events, and e-news. In addition, it allows firms to establish user accounts for selected individuals, providng them with either limited or comprehensive administrative rights. The legalConnect lawObjects Development Library consists of an extensive library of routines or "methods" that can be inserted into a Web page in order to retrieve selected information from the SQL Server database, and display it to the page. legalConnect lawObjects preclude the significant amounts of programming that would ordinarily be required during Web site development, and reduce the time and cost devoted to development by orders of magnitude. The legalConnect Web Suite uses a powerful object model to represent the types of information specific to law firms. Every significant information "entity" found within a firm - the firm, a practice area, an attorney, a staff member, an article, a news item, an event - is modeled as a software object using standard object-oriented design methodology. Each instance of an object - a specific attorney, for example - is communicated with using various methods in the legalConnect lawObjects Library, and the information that is associated with it - the attorney's name, experience, and other relevant content - is managed and updated using the legalConnect Web Content Management System. The figure below illustrates the legalConnect Web Suite.
Figure 1: The legalConnect Web Suite Building an Attorney Bio How does it all work? The legalConnect Web Content Management System will be used to add the content that will appear on your Web site. In the case of an attorney bio, this information will include not only the standard information associated with attorney bios, but representative cases, news, publications, and upcoming events. In the Web pages used to display the bio information for the attorney, legalConnect lawObjects Library methods will be inserted into different locations within the pages, depending on the page design. These may include methods that:
Each method will specify parameters for the information being retrieved, depending on the Web page specifications established by a law firm. If the Web page design for the bio is later changed, or the need to display new types of information arises, the time and cost to insert new methods or re-position old ones is straightforward, and the incremental cost in terms of time and money is low.
